If any of the scenarios above resonate with you, grab your journal, and let’s get started!
Step 1: Hydrate
If drinking water isn’t your first priority in the morning, it’s time to make it one! There are so many benefits to drinking water as soon as you wake up!
Adding Water to your Morning Routine fights off dehydration.
Which is critical in the morning!
Because you probably just spent 8 hours or so without drinking anything! So water first thing in the morning will help you catch up.
Not to mention, we lose fluids through sweat while we sleep so you will need to replenish what you’ve lost.!
Drinking water first thing in the morning is a fantastic energy booster!
Think of your body powering up with the fuel you just gave it while you drink.
And if you’re a coffee drinker, having a glass of water before your morning coffee can definitely help protect your gut health. Which leads to many other healing benefits!

Step 2: Journal
What’s a good mindful morning routine without a journal session?
Add in a quick 2-minute journal session. You can achieve 2 minutes even when you’re dreary and crusty-eyed!
It’s designed for those days when you’ve pressed the Snooze Button one too many times!
One of the best ways to rededicate time back to the self in a world designed to draw attention away from it is to make your morning about you! And what better way to do that than to express those wonderful ideas buzzing around in your head!
You can choose whatever you want to add to your two-minute journal session. But if you don’t know where to start, here are my suggestions!

Start with gratitude!
Jot down one thing that you’re grateful for! That’s it.
It doesn’t need to be a long-winded gratitude journal where you’re struggling to come up with ideas you haven’t used yet!
This is the first step in starting a morning routine that’s not only quick but mindful. Choosing one thing you are grateful for every morning will train your brain to wake up and focus on the positives.
The more you do it, the more positive your days will be!
Shifting into the energy of gratitude in the morning will create tons of momentum! And you will effortlessly attract more events throughout your day for you to be grateful for.
In the wellness community talking about shifting into the energy of gratitude is a popular tip!
But I have a Bonus tip for you!
Use your morning journal session to express gratitude for something that hasn’t happened yet.
Boom!
Now it doubles as gratitude and manifestation! And you’re on to the next step.
Set a Self Care Goal.
Use this journal time to write down a goal that you consider self-care. Make sure it is for you and only you.
A goal you enjoy that will help you relax, reset, and have fun!
Sometimes we can get caught up in the idea of checking boxes off of our to-do list that we neglect self-care.
Well not with this step! Adding goal-setting for self-care into your morning routine creates an association that self-care is just as important as any other goal.
My self-care goals generally consist of things like taking baths, watching movies, or doing facemasks. But lately, I’ve definitely been soothing my inner child with this Paint by Numbers from Amazon!
On low energy days, self-care can be as simple as treating yourself to take out or allowing yourself to procrastinate or say no.
Last but not least,
Affirm
Take the time to write one quick affirmation that you can use to set a foundation in your subconscious mind before anyone or anything else can get to it.
Pinterest has a huge selection of affirmations available if you ever get stumped coming up with them yourself.
I have a personal board as well with tons of affirmations!

And if you’re feeling too lazy to get creative with affirmations, my 5 Minute Morning Routine Journal comes with an affirmation for each day!
Now on to Step 3!
Step 3: Deep Breathing or Meditation
Because we are keeping this morning routine simple and sweet, the next step is a 2-minute meditation.
Meditation in the morning can help to clear your mind and reconnect you with your own inner voice.
This way, we can make the best decisions for ourselves going forward.
Meditation can come naturally to you, or it can be a little tough to figure out.
I had a difficult time understanding what I was really supposed to be doing when I first started out.
Overthinking can cause you to think too hard about the concept of meditation.
Do I pay attention to my thoughts?
Am I supposed to be silent?
What am I waiting for?
Am I doing it right?
If you feel the same way, I recommend checking out the book How to Meditate.
It’s helped me to understand meditation at its most basic level and made it much easier for me to do.
You can also substitute meditation for some deep breathing or breathwork. Both are very effective at helping you re-center yourself and fight off fear and anxiety.

Step 4: Movement
Finish your morning routine off with 1 minute of movement.
I’m definitely not talking about full-on exercise!
Just something you feel is very simple. It can be light stretching or a yoga flow you feel comfortable with.
Or it can be even more simple like taking an extra trip down the stairs.
Even so, this can be the toughest part to accomplish in most popular wellness-driven morning routines.
Many people recommend movement because it’s the best way to get your blood pumping and your brain working optimally.
But personally, I take my minute and fit it in where I can. I just make sure to be up and moving before grabbing my cell phone in the morning.
It helps you take control of your nervous system before any intense piece of information can hijack it.
