Do you know how to identify your inner voice?
There’s a good chance that you probably ignore your intuition all the time! So how do you know your true inner voice over the one you’ve been trained to listen to?
Self-help gurus and spiritualists alike all preach about listening to your inner voice, intuition, conscience, etc. No matter what you call it, it’s the voice you hear in your head that only tells the truth.
One thing most people agree with is that listening to your intuition will help you to overcome anything holding you back.
But it can be difficult to tell what your actual inner voice sounds like!
Especially when we are emotional or were conditioned to act and speak a certain way.
Therefore that makes identifying it an essential part of your own personal transformation!

Why Is Finding Your Inner Voice Important?
I chased after this idea of listening to my inner voice so that I could transform my life, but I hit a wall when I could not tell my intuition from my anxiety!
Learning to identify my inner voice made all the difference in my quality of life because I can now make decisions that are actually in my best interest!
I was able to start healing my anxious mind, and as a result, I have become a lighter, more carefree version of myself.
I can now cultivate my life into what I dreamed it would look like outside of my fears and doubts.
Your inner voice is quiet, a gentle nudge. It won’t bring you feelings of fear or anxiety. It won’t trigger you into acting or behaving in a way that doesn’t align with who you want to be.
Your intuition is the version of you that thinks and lives unapologetically and does not doubt itself.
It doesn’t repeat itself as anxiety will.
Intuition is the knowledge that’s left once all of the emotions have subsided.
How did I learn what my inner voice sounded like?
I identified the voice I heard when I was at peace.
To do this, I had to find my peace first. I started trying all types of wellness methods, forms of divination, and self-help books to find what brought me the most peace.
Here are some methods I recommend…
Meditation
Meditation is the quickest way to identify your inner voice!
The act of sitting still with our thoughts is not what society teaches us to do. We are often taught to be always on, always running and planning our next best thing.
The present is never good enough!
Meditation is one of the best ways to find peace in the present moment. But that does not mean it is easy!
They call it daily meditation practice for a reason.
The good news is that you don’t need to meditate for very long in one sitting.
But if you are consistent with it, you’ll be able to identify your inner voice pretty quickly.
Your inner voice is the most apparent when your body is at peace.
I got my best meditation tips from the book, How To Meditate by Pema Chödrön. It helped put the concept of meditation into perspective for me.
Detox From Social Media
Social media heavily influences our thoughts, consciously and subconsciously.
How many times have you found yourself watching something you have seen on social media and then repeating what you heard, word for word, later on without effort?
Social media distorts our thoughts and makes us believe certain things by lodging these ideals in our subconscious.
This is why trends gain so much momentum and as a result, it’s hard for people to feel comfortable with who they are.
We receive so much feedback on and how we should think, be, and act that we forget about who we are without it.
There is nothing wrong with enjoying social media here and there!
But if you’re having a tough time identifying your inner voice, a detox may need to be your next move!
Take Walks
Movement in your body is what gets your energy flowing.
It allows you to access your own personal power, get ideas flowing and spend time at that moment becoming one with yourself.
Taking walks outdoors also allows you to connect with nature. This is important because the intention of connecting with nature is to be in the present moment!
For me, taking walks is a form of meditation. I go out on walks daily, with no headphones or distractions, and just listen to the world around me.
Try not to overthink and let your mind flow with what is directly in front of you.
Journal
I know you knew this one was coming! I love a good journal session.
Journaling frequently is a great way to get in touch with your inner voice because you can freely express yourself without fear of judgment or outside influence.
Journaling through every emotion will help you learn more about yourself.
Through this method, you can go back and reread your entries and try to identify which voice feels most authentically like you.
Just make sure when you are rereading your entries, you’re being kind to yourself and non-judgmental.
I have a line of Morning Routine Journals, but always use a journal that works best for you!
Find Slow Activities
Doing things that you love on your own will create the space for your inner voice to shine through.
Slow activities are those that you can enjoy, pace yourself, and let your energy flow.
They are activities that you can do outside of the influence of outside ideas or voices.
This can be painting, writing, yoga, crafts, driving in the car without music, etc.
My favorite is paint-by-numbers when I’m feeling like soothing my inner child!
Use Crystals for Assistance
Using crystals to identify your inner voice is not a necessary step, but I certainly recommend it!
I am a strong advocate for crystal healing. I believe that everything has energy. And authentic crystals from the earth can work to amplify, reduce or transmute those energies in our everyday lives.
If you have never worked with crystals before, you will want to make sure your crystals are authentic and ethically sourced.
Visiting your local metaphysical shop is a good start as most of them are owned by crystal enthusiasts!
Purchasing them from places like Amazon is a sure-fire way to end up with a bunch of fake crystals!
I recommend purchasing raw crystals before moving on to tumbled or crystal jewelry because they are more likely to be authentic.
Here’s a list of crystals that will help you identify your inner voice and intuition!
- Amethyst
- Howlite
- Carnelian
- Rose Quartz
- Desert Rose Selenite
- Green Fluorite
