Creating a Vision Board Changed My Life in Just One Year!
I was feeling the same way in December of 2020. I was dissatisfied and burnt out from my job and from living through a global pandemic.
Often I would sit back and think, “Man! There should be more to life than this!”.
One day I felt that same spark of inspiration! The internal desire to create a vision of what living my life to the fullest would actually look and feel like!
After taking a trip to my local thrift store, I found some old magazines, some foam poster board and I made my 5-year vision board. I packed it full of pictures, words, and phrases that matched what the happiest version of myself would want and need.
I added so many amazing things like traveling, cleaning up my diet, creating a brand of my own, and buying whatever I wanted without putting myself in debt.
Then I dug a little deeper and added all the non-material things I wanted to see in my life. Like a healthy, growing relationship with my partner and my friends, more family time, spiritual goals, like consistently journaling and meditating.

The more describing words I added to it the more my goals began to materialize into my life. Throughout the year, my vision got clearer and things began to manifest quickly!
And to my surprise, just a year later, I’ve made more progress than I’d ever imagined!
I felt like I had made the perfect vision board!
This project I crafted on a whim has changed my life, and I know that you want that too!
So I’m here to help!
Here are my tips for creating a vision board that will transform your life!
1. Include Small Victories
Adding smaller goals to your board is a great way to prove to yourself that progress is happening!
Throw in a picture of a fresh bouquet of flowers or a free cup of coffee.
Anything that seems pretty simple to achieve!
When these visions materialize in your life, it will give you the confidence to know that the bigger ones are on their way!
I included smaller goals on my vision board that brought me momentary joy. I found pictures of waffles, new houseplants, and a Nintendo switch.
These easily achievable visions ended up manifesting pretty quickly in my life. Which only made me more excited!
I added inspirational sayings that I printed out and added to my board. And when I was out or on social media, I would see those phrases everywhere!
Seeing small things like this manifest is usually a sign that your other visions are on their way!
2. Add Goals That Intimidate You
There’s a famous quote by Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, the first woman president in all of Africa.
She said, “If your dreams do not scare you, they aren’t big enough!”
Add the goals that you want badly!
The ones that keep you up at night. Now’s not the time to be stingy! Don’t sell yourself short.
Include the goals that seem as if they could only happen by miracle or divine intervention. You may not be sure how (or if) you can achieve them.
But I promise as more of your visions materialize, the intimidating dreams won’t seem like as far of a reach.
Be bold about what you want!
If you want to purchase your dream car with cash, add that!
If you want to run your own business yet right now you have no business ideas, who cares! Throw it on there!
You don’t need to know the “how”, creating a vision board is a time for you to focus on the “what”.
3. BE SPECIFIC!
Creating a vision board is a form of manifestation! Being as specific as you possibly can will help you craft the perfect vision board.
If you are familiar with the law of attraction, you know that we’re always attracting things, people, and experiences into our lives.
But what we attract reflects our current mindset.
Meaning that these visions can show up to you in any type of way if you aren’t specific about what you want.
Perhaps you want to run your own business. You should add descriptive words about how you want to feel during that process.
Add a picture of someone working on a business plan with words and phrases such as financially secure, passionate, comfortable, exciting, etc.
Otherwise, you could get thrown a curveball!
Like you come up with your own business plan, but then later you realize it’s something you don’t actually enjoy. And as a result, the business flops!
We definitely don’t want that!
Always clarify as much as you can on your vision board.
Note: This doesn’t have to be done right away. You can add a simple picture and add words as time goes on.
4. Add More Than Just Physical Items
While material things are great and should definitely be added to your vision board, remember that they’re not everything!
Add to your vision board anything that will help transform you into a version of yourself that’s happy, healthy, and thriving!
Use vision board sayings and printables from google that align with the life you’re trying to create.
I have sayings about becoming spiritually awake, releasing limiting beliefs, and healing on my vision board.
But add these two at your own risk!
I didn’t know the rollercoaster of emotions I signed up for when I did.
Although, it was worth it!
As a result, I’ve seen my manifestations come in so much faster!
5. Give It a Time Frame
A perfect vision board should have a time frame. It’s best to keep it within a range of time so you have an idea of when to create your next one. For example, 6 months to a year or 5-10 years.
You can set the time frame for your vision board for any length of time you think it will take you to reach your goals. Some people even make monthly vision boards to set their intentions for the month and crush their short-term goals!
I personally made a 5-year vision board because the things I wanted to build in my life required changes to my long-term goals.
6. Put It In A Place You Can See Every Day
This is the part that most people don’t follow through with!
Put your vision board in a place where you can see it EVERY DAY.
Most of this visualization is subconscious. While we may not consciously think about the things on our vision board daily, our subconscious will do the work for us.
That’s why you have to make sure you put it in a place where it is at least within eye-shot.
While there are more benefits to creating a physical vision board, I know most people probably don’t want a giant poster collage as part of their bedroom decor.
But that’s where Canva comes in handy! Put together your own vision board with Canva’s free software, and you can make your vision board any size you like.
Create a digital vision board and use it as your lock screen or print out an 8.5”x11” board and leave it near your desk where you can see it every day!
You can even frame it for a classier touch!
7. Let Go of the Outcome
Forget about the how! Don’t be too rigid with your receiving. Let go of the vision you have in your head about how these things will come to you!
Imagine someone you know promises to send you some money. So every day you go down to the mailbox, only to find nothing each day. And you start to get upset because every day is a disappointment.
Meanwhile, you’re missing the fact that they sent you a direct deposit 3 weeks ago because you thought they could only send it through the mail.
Let yourself be surprised with how things come into your life!
On my vision board, I added that I wanted to work from home permanently. Later in the year I was ready to start looking for new positions because my current company planned to go back into the office after the pandemic.
On top of that, my partner and I wanted to move to a new city and we couldn’t do that with either of our jobs.
He eventually ended up getting an offer for a better job that required him to move to Chicago (where my family lives) while I still was having no luck.
So I took a risk!
I asked my boss if there was any potential way I could be a full-time remote employee so that I could move to a new city. It took a lot of time for them to get back to me but they said yes!
I almost blocked myself from my manifestation because I was so sure that it was not an option.
So my advice is to relax, stay true to yourself, stop checking the mailbox and be open to receiving what you want in any way it may come to you!
Now that your perfect vision board is complete, there’s only one thing left to do.
Sit back and Brace Yourself!
Believe it or not, some of the things you’ve added to your vision board are probably things you have subconscious blocks around. And now that you’ve added them to your vision board, you’ve set the wheels in motion to receive just what you’ve asked for.
So buckle up and prepare yourself for the journey of working through those subconscious blocks!
You can not receive a manifestation that you don’t believe you’re worthy of. Or if you do receive it, you set yourself up for self-sabotage and you’ll end up losing it.
Adding these things to your vision board is your way of telling God, the universe, and your spiritual team,
“I am ready to have this thing no matter what I have to work through internally to get it!”
Before your manifestations come in, there will be tests to see if you’re ready!
If you’ve really worked through all your fears and anxiety about it and addressed your limiting beliefs!
I wish you the best of luck. Feel free to revisit this page if you ever need a reminder!
