As a result, Africa now produces about half of the world’s Cassava supply within 40 of its countries. The root vegetable is widely used as a food source but also as an industrial material.
Lately, this starchy root of the Yuca plant has gained lots of popularity as a gluten-free flour option!
But more importantly, for gut-health enthusiasts, cassava is an impeccable resistant starch with a low-lectin content when cooked.
If purchasing Cassava flour, it’s important to buy it store-bought and avoid eating it raw. The root itself contains a compound with cyanide when uncooked and is toxic in certain amounts.
Above all, it is very safe to consume once processed and cooked, as civilizations have been doing for centuries.

My Experience With Cassava Flour On The Plant Paradox
When I was on The Plant Paradox, I noticed that most of my diet consisted of many healthy fats!
Lots of Avocado, olive oil, nut flours, nut milk, etc. I was healing my gut, but I still wanted to lose weight!
When my weight began to plateau around the 10-pound point, I used the MyFitnesspal app Free Trial to get an idea of how my fats, carbs, and proteins measured up!
It confirmed what I already knew.
I was not consuming enough carbs!
So I decided to look more into lectin-free carbs.
Then I found it, my holy grail resistant starch!
Cassava flour is high in carbohydrates, so adding it to my diet helped me balance out the fat.
And wah-lah!
I started seeing progress again!

Best Ways To Include Cassava Flour In Your Diet
1. Use It For Baking
You might see that when you substitute with cassava flour you should use a 1:1 ratio.
Which works! But it is a very powdery flour. And a lot less dense than almond flour or coconut flour!
So it can leave your dough a little dry if not measured correctly.
It’s perfect to use as a flour substitute because it’s super versatile!
But one of the best tips I have found when baking with Cassava flour comes from Organically Addison.
They recommend beginning with just ¾ the amount of flour and slowly adding more as you go! This has helped me so much when trying out new Cassava Flour Recipes.
My favorite way to use cassava flour is in the Brazilian Cheese Ball recipe from The Plant Paradox Cookbook.
The authentic name of this dish is Pao de Quiejo. And they are so delicious!
The cassava flour is blended with your choice of milk and Parmigiano Reggiano into a potato-like dough and then baked in the oven! It satisfies your cheese cravings and your bread cravings all in one!

2. Try Out Cassava Flour Tortillas
These are a must if you’re on The Plant Paradox program and are looking for new meals to spice things up!
They’re great for your gut, and the Siete brand, in particular, is Plant Paradox Approved!
The only downfall is how thin they are. The key to these is to heat them in a pan and eat them right away so that they don’t lose their softness!
Recently I have been trying out the Tia Lupita Cassava and Cactus Tortillas because Nepal is Plant Paradox Friendly.
The only problem with this brand is that they contain small amounts of Okara flour, a Tofu byproduct. Which is not the best if you’re sensitive to soy.
If you have extra time on your hands, the safest bet in finding cassava flour tortillas that are good for your gut is to make them!

3. Use Cassava Flour As A Fry-Coating
This is one of my newly discovered uses for cassava flour and it has quickly become my favorite! Cassava flour makes a delicious coating for fried foods.
Without all the gluten!
And if you’re frying with some Avocado oil, you have a lectin-free meal!
When you substitute with Cassava Flour when frying, it gives you a satisfyingly crunchy coating.
Recently, I fried Wild-Caught Calamari, and it turned out amazing!

4. Check Out Cassava Flour Noodles

5. Try Cassava Chips as a Snack
Snacks are a must when you’re on a gut-health journey!
Especially on The Plant Paradox. But it’s important to remember that not all cassava chips are made equal.
In my opinion, Siete is the best brand of all time!
The ultimate game-changer, especially if tortilla chips and dip are your go-to snack.
Siete chips are what changed the game for my partner when I had him try out The Plant Paradox.
